Ingredient Insight | Vitamin C!

What is Vitamin C and where does it come from?

Vitamin C is a key ingredient for us at WiDEYE! It plays a major role in our ever popular Rehab Range. Whilst we’ve used it in our formulations from the very beginning, it’s become a bit of a buzzword in recent years… for good reason!

Vitamin C is a vital molecule for skin health, amongst many other benefits, studies have shown that it can can help to prevent and and treat UV damage (important to note that it shouldn’t be substituted for SPF) - one reason we always recommend our rehab range to those that are exposed to the elements! To keep things natural, all our vitamin C comes from essential oils, meaning we avoid any synthetic variations.

One thing that’s always important to consider with vitamins, is their volatility. Vitamin C in particular can degrade when exposed to sunlight or certain temperatures, which presses on the importance of storing products in the right conditions as well as being extremely careful throughout the formulation process. However when delivered in the right way, the results can be excellent! Top Tip* Always remember to store any of your products away from the sun, a cool bathroom cupboard is ideal!

In what way can Vitamin C Help?

Alongside being a fantastic ingredient for those who are exposed to the elements, other known benefits of vitamin C are the following:

Brightens and reduces pigmentation - Vitamin C can  slow melanin production as well as speed up cell turnover, this in turn helps to even up dull and uneven areas of skin over time!

Promotes Collagen Production - Vitamin C plays an important role in the production of collagen synthesis, supplementing your skincare routine with it can therefore help combat wrinkles over time.

We can’t stress enough how good this ingredient is if you live in the outdoors. Especially as we move in to summer, it’s the perfect time to be thinking about introducing some Vitamin C into your routine.

How can I get my dose of Vitamin C?

There are a number of different ways in which you can reap the benefits of Vitamin C. It’s firstly important to mention that eating plenty of fruit with high vitamin C content is the place to start, Kiwis and Oranges in particular are fantastic!

Unfortunately, Vitamin C in skincare isn’t necessarily for everyone, for those who have sensitive skin especially, it can be a little strong and cause a reaction. We’d therefore recommend you stick to the edible form! For the outdoorsy person with more normal skin however, we’d firstly suggest taking a look at our Rehab Face Cream!

This is packed full of both Vitamin C and E to give your skin twice the amount antioxidants and help protect against UV damage! Our Cleanser and Toner in the same range compliment this incredibly well, so we'd highly suggest taking a look at these also.
